Important: please make sure you use the correct reference so that HMRC can allocate your payment to your tax bill accurately. A wrong reference can delay your payment or put it against a different tax.

Allow time for your payment to arrive

Your payment must reach HMRC by the deadline, not just leave your account. How long it takes depends on how you pay.

  1. SAME OR NEXT DAY

    Fastest

Faster Payments, CHAPS, approving the payment through your online bank account, or a debit or corporate credit card online.

  2. 3 WORKING DAYS

    Plan ahead

Bacs transfers, and Direct Debits you have already set up with HMRC.

  3. 5 WORKING DAYS

    New Direct Debit

Setting up a Direct Debit with HMRC for the first time.

  4. WEEKENDS

    Bank holidays

If a deadline falls on a weekend or bank holiday, pay by the working day before, unless you use Faster Payments.

Tax funding

Apply for finance to pay your tax bill

Spread the cost of a large Self Assessment, Corporation Tax or VAT bill with a tax funding loan from a specialist lender, so HMRC is paid in full and on time.

  • Pay HMRC by the deadline and avoid late-payment penalties
  • Repay in fixed monthly instalments
  • We help you compare options and apply

Silver Throne offers limited credit broking activities and refers clients to associated entities to process finance applications. Silver Throne is not a lender. Finance is subject to status and the lender’s terms. Borrowing costs may be higher than HMRC interest, so compare it with an HMRC payment plan first.

Can’t pay in full?

Contact us before the deadline. HMRC may agree a payment plan (Time to Pay) so you can spread the cost, but interest still runs on late tax.

  • We can review the bill and check the figures are right
  • We can help you approach HMRC about a payment plan
  • We can reduce or set up payments on account where appropriate
